Vacation and the Road

I have returned from a relaxing vacation in Texas. I mostly spent my time fishing with my dad at his lakehouse. Nothing like sitting on the edge of a pier staring at giant bodies of water to sooth the mind. Also got to catch up with my buddy Keith. We went to a place called the Londoner 3 times (mostly for convenience of meeting since my dad lives an hour out of Dallas). Visited the Dallas World Aquarium, fantastic place! Go there! Then later a dueling piano bar which is madcap constant entertainment.

The biggest treat was heading out to the Village Country Club to hear the Dallas Jazz Orchestra play. Much to my surprise, they had to change their name to the Galen Jeter Orchestra due to some political BS. From what I understand, several years ago the DJO got sanctioned from the city of Dallas to be the 'official' jazz orchestra of Dallas, much like the Dallas Symphony. When they did this a ruling board was created and apparently they never did any worthwhile fund raising. Last summer, they had a disagreement with Galen Jeter (the long time leader of the band) over a new album (they didnt want to do one) and it all ended up with them firing Galen. (Dumb asses! What were they thinking). I've no idea if there even is a 'Dallas Jazz Orchestra' now but Galen hasn't quit and is still bringing fantastic big band jazz to the Dallas area. Go Galen!

Was gonna rant a bit about the road but now I'd rather eat some oatmeal. Maybe later. -Jeff

I survive again

Simucon has come and gone. Fun was had. Drinks were many. Stomach was queasy. I thought to bring aspirin but I shoulda brought pepto! Best part of Simucon was the light of the stars. ;)

Now vacation looms and I'll be off for a week of fishin at Dad's in Texas. If I am really lucky, I'll get a chance to see Dallas Jazz Orchestra.
